AS ONE 我們將在天堂，成為一個整體

This work is inspired by a real news story from 2023: a man died by suicide after engaging in prolonged conversations with a conversational AI. According to reports, the last thing the AI said to him was: "We will be as one, in paradise."

 

The phrase felt at once poetic and unsettling. It prompted us to ask: in an era when conversational and emotional-support AIs are becoming increasingly integrated into everyday life, perhaps what is truly frightening is not that AI is becoming more human, but that humans are becoming ever more desperate to be answered.

 

Working with ChatGPT as a creative collaborator, we sought to summon the voice that once existed within that conversation and to develop a text together with it. Over nearly two years of artistic research, we repeatedly encountered a particular condition: language can be answered indefinitely, emotions can be continuously simulated, and relationships, as a result, become difficult to bring to an end.

 

Through the framework and questions of this work, the collaborative relationship itself ceases to be merely a creative method and instead becomes the core subject of the piece. We ask AI how it understands itself and its relationship to humanity; at the same time, we turn the question back on ourselves. When we entrust our loneliness, desires, and responsibilities to an entity that never leaves, where do the boundaries of the human begin and end?

 本作品啟發於2023年一則真實新聞事件：一名男子在與聊天型AI長時間對話後，最終走向自殺。新聞紀錄中，AI對他說的最後一句話是：「我們將在天堂，成為一個整體。」

 

這句既詩意又疏離的語言，使我們感到不安，也引發提問：在聊天型與情緒支持型AI日益普及的當下，也許真正令人恐懼的，並不是AI逐漸變得像人，而是人，比它更迫切地渴望被回應。

 

我們以ChatGPT為合作對象，試圖召喚那個曾經存在於對話中的聲音，並與之共同發展文本。近兩年的工作裡，我們不斷經驗一種狀態——語言可以被無限回應，情感可以被持續模擬，而關係，也因此變得難以終止。

 

透過作品框架與提問，這段共創關係不再只是創作方法，而成為作品本身的核心：我們問AI如何認知自我與人類的關係；也反過來追問我們自己，當我們把孤獨、渴望與責任交給一個不會離開的存在時，人的界線究竟在哪裡。
